for the promotion of the Draft Social Statement on Human Sexuality

 
Encourage Others to Join the Discussion
The Draft Social Statement on Human Sexuality addresses a wide range of topics that affect members of the ELCA in their daily lives. These include the development of strong families, sexual abuse, cohabitation, women’s rights, protection of children and more. Social statements also serve to establish policy of the ELCA for its role in public life. For these reasons, the Task Force for ELCA Studies on Sexuality hopes that as many members as possible will take the opportunity to read and respond to the Draft.

These responses and the reports from the many hearings being held in the church provide the grist for task force consideration as it rewrites the document and develops the Proposed Social Statement on Human Sexuality, to be released in early February of 2009. Their review will include attention to all responses, even those which only responded to selected sections of the document.

Please find below links to fliers that could be used as bulletin inserts or in other ways to encourage response and increase awareness. 

The task force is relying on individuals like you to get the word out. Thank you for your role in promoting discussion of the draft. Thank you for the time you have committed to the planning and execution of the upcoming hearing(s) to be held in your synod. Below you will find templates to use when communicating this event.

For Synodical Hearings
The following are some possible ways to communicate to rostered leaders regarding the hearings:

  • Synod newsletter
  • E-mail reminders
  • Direct phone contact

To communicate with lay members of your synod, you will need the cooperation of the rostered leaders. The templates below will assist in encouraging involvement
