Founded in 1858 as the Missionary Institute of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the university is, like the ELCA, open and ecumenical, and also seeks to develop an understanding of our ethical and spiritual responsibilities.
A national liberal arts college, Susquehanna offers strong programs in the arts and sciences enhanced by equally strong professional programs in areas like business, education and communications. There is also a pre-seminary program for students preparing for careers as pastors or lay professionals in the church. A Susquehanna education builds the broad base of knowledge to help you be an educated citizen of the world— to enjoy debate, to appreciate a symphony, or to understand the history behind an international conflict. We also offer the in-depth preparation you need to succeed in graduate or professional school or a job after graduation.
We help you to customize your four years in college with internships, volunteer service, research, leadership opportunities and exciting off-campus experiences. You will find many ways to study in different fields through programs such as corporate communications or minors in health care studies, Jewish studies and diversity studies. We also have an innovative Focus program with interdisciplinary courses and short-term travel/study abroad.
Academic engagement is a priority at Susquehanna, where undergraduates are our only students. Our size gives you the chance to work closely with highly qualified faculty. They see teaching as their first priority and frequently invite students to collaborate on their research.
