Lenoir-Rhyne College, Hickory, North CarolinaLenoir-Rhyne is located on a wooded, 100-acre campus in Hickory, North Carolina, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hickory enjoys a mild year-round climate with an average daytime high of 67 degrees. Winter skiing and snowboarding are available in the nearby mountains, and the beach is an easy day’s drive away. Many entertainment opportunities are also available in nearby Charlotte, N.C.

Size
Lenoir-Rhyne enrolls 1,550 students. Of these, 1,239 are full-time, traditional students. 70% are from the state of North Carolina, 13% are minority and international students, 63% are female, 21% are Lutheran, and 89% attended public high school.

Faculty
73% of full-time faculty hold doctoral degrees. Our student-faculty ratio is 11:1.

Ranking
For the past three years, Lenoir-Rhyne was ranked first in North Carolina in its category by U.S. News & World Report. Among Comprehensive Colleges-Bachelors, Lenoir-Rhyne was 7th in the South in 2003.

Curriculum
The College’s liberal arts core curriculum features 66 undergraduate majors in the liberal arts, the sciences and pre-professional programs.

Graduate degrees
Master’s degrees are offered in the fields of education, counseling, business administration (with optional accounting concentration), and occupational therapy.

Special programs
The College offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in occupational therapy. It is one of the few colleges offering a bachelor’s degree in sacred music and is known for its A Cappella Choir. You will also find opportunities to study abroad, learn leadership skills through the Broyhill Institute for Business, and take an in-depth look at your faith through the programs of the Center for Theology. Many of our science majors participate in independent research guided by our faculty. Our Honors Program offers special challenges for our top academic students.

Lenoir-Rhyne has a 50-year tradition of preparing students for careers in deaf education. The College also has a strong emphasis on support for deaf and hearing-impaired students. Sign language interpreters are present at all major College events.

Athletics
The College’s intercollegiate teams compete in NCAA Division II, South Atlantic Conference (SAC). Varsity teams include men’s football, basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, cross-country and cheerleading. Women’s teams include basketball, tennis, soccer, cross-country, fast-pitch softball, cheerleading, golf and volleyball. An extensive line-up of intramural sports is also offered.

Cost
Tuition: $17,120 per academic year (2004-2005). Room, board and fees: $7,030 per academic year. Evening College: $250 per credit hour.

Financial Aid
92% of the student body receives financial assistance in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and work-study opportunities. Special financial aid opportunities are available for members of ELCA congregations in North Carolina.
