Situated on the shore of Lake Michigan, the campus enjoys an idyllic natural setting. Located midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, our students enjoy the cultural, educational, and internship opportunities offered by our two major metropolitan neighbors.

With an average class size of 18 students and a student-faculty ratio of 17:1, Carthage offers a nurturing, personal education in a way that most large universities cannot. Faculty members come from the top graduate schools in their fields and are selected for their commitment to undergraduate teaching and research.

Complementing the academic and residence-life programs are a wide range of extracurricular activities. There are more than ninety clubs and organizations, including social sororities and fraternities; fine arts performance groups; campus publications and media; social service organizations; student government; honorary, professional, and departmental organizations; religious life groups; and general interest organizations. In athletics, Carthage offers twenty-two NCAA Division III intercollegiate teams. Club sports are offered in women’s bowling and coed ice hockey. Intramural and recreational activities are also available.

More than 90 percent of Carthage students receive some type of financial assistance. Carthage administers more than $20 million in financial aid each year. A wide range of aid is available, including both need-based and non-need-based scholarships and grants.
