California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, CaliforniaExperience Success is not just our tagline; it's our commitment to you. We promise every student high quality educational programs, small classes and professors who are passionate about teaching.

Founded merely a half century ago on land donated by the son of Norwegian immigrants, California Lutheran University (CLU) has grown from a small liberal arts college to California Lutheran Universitya dynamic university offering undergraduate, graduate and professional programs.

Nestled among the rolling hills of Thousand Oaks, just an hour from Los Angeles, CLU's intimate size — 2,000 undergraduate students and 1,000 graduate students — and beautiful location create the perfect backdrop for a learning environment that values each individual student.

Our Lutheran Heritage
Rooted in the Lutheran tradition of higher education, CLU welcomes students of all faiths and encourages dialogue exploring faith and reason. The University’s values-based programs consistently support students as they begin to make important life decisions that impact not only their career choices but also their development as contributing members of society.

Emphasis on High Academic Achievement
With 36 majors and 31 minors to choose from, CLU students graduate with highly marketable degrees. Approximately 98 percent of CLU students have jobs or are accepted to graduate schools within nine months of graduation.

The Core-21 curriculum is designed to instill the habits of the mind that are necessary for students to become lifelong, independent learners and responsible world citizens who can adapt to, create and change the society of the future.CLU Samuelson Chapel

The importance of international education is reflected in the many partnerships CLU has developed with higher education institutions and the study abroad programs established throughout the world. In addition, CLU provides more than 1,500 internship opportunities in the region and hundreds more throughout the United States for students seeking hands-on job experience.

Personal Learning Environment
Students are encouraged to find their passion at CLU. Whether they are on the playing field, on stage or in a laboratory, CLU students have the opportunity to follow their dreams while making strides toward a meaningful career.

CLU’s small class size (average of 15 students) fosters learning in an environment that encourages inquiry as well as academic excellence through interaction with professors who are dedicated to teaching and helping students grow personally and academically.

One of the favorite gathering places on campus is The Enormous Luther, a bronze stature of Martin Luther sculpted by the late Sir Bernardus Weber. The stature sits in Falde Plaza surrounded by Pearson Library, Preus-Brandt Forum and beautiful Kingsmen Park

Exceptional Faculty
With doctoral degrees from some of the finest universities in the world, CLU's faculty represents a broad cross-section of backgrounds, religious beliefs and philosophies. They take special interest in their students, engaging them in real-world research projects and collaborating academically in a manner that is almost unheard of at larger institutions.

Active Minds, Active Bodies
CLU’s 19 intercollegiate athletic teams compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III.

In addition to intercollegiate athletics, CLU has an active coed intramural program and a fully equipped fitness center in the new Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center.
